Hello, I'm Rahul Golhar. I'm a Computer Science Graduate Student at Rochester Institute of Technology. With a vision of contributing to the field of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, I'm actively seeking Co-op/Internship or Research opportunities to set a foot in the field.

Journey till now

It was the year 2012, I was staring at a blue screen of Turbo C waiting for it to turn black and print Hello World..!! That was the day when I developed my first ever Computer Program like everyone does. In a week, I decided to give a try at some simple physics formulas and Bam! there was the moment when I realized "This is so much fun". And since then, I never looked back.

Fast forward to 2 years, I started exploring and enjoying the field of Computer Science while pursuing my Bachelor degree in the same. Being a quick learner, in a very short time, I was able to delve into different subfields of the field spanning from Databases like MySQL and Mongo to Hardware like Arduino and Raspberry Pi to mobile app development for Android phones as well. This also gave me a chance to learn about different programming environments like Java, Python, C, Linux shell scripting, HTML, and CSS. In these times, I had a great opportunity to participate in the "Smart India Hackathon 2017" which was at the time, "The World's Biggest Hackathon". Me and my team later reached the Grand Finale of the hackathon. Unfortunately, we couldn't win the prize but we surely earned a very priceless experience by working around some of the brightest young minds of India.

During the third year of my Bachelor's degree, I got an opportunity to get a certification of EMC Academic Associate, Data Science and Big Data Analytics in R and that was my first encounter with something from Data Science. Just watching how one can make the computer learn on its own was an amazing feeling after all. This was the point when I decided on coming up with something unique for my final year project. And then I ended up by making a prototype of an Intelligent Refrigerator to Recommend Recipes. That's how my journey in the field started. I was fortunate to have a great team that helped us winning different competitions throughout the year.

By virtue of these experiences, later I landed a job as a Software Engineer in an MNC named Cybage Software Pvt. Ltd. I worked as a Full Stack Java developer and this gave me an insight and experience in technologies like HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Angular, Spring framework, and a few more. This loaded me with basic arsenals needed for a software developer. In addition, it also gave me a valuable understanding of how the corporate world works.

I was happy with the job and could have easily stayed there by my goal was always to dive deeper into the field of Data Science and for achieving this I decided to pursue a master’s degree.

Finally, came the summer of 2020, when I decided to "turn the crisis into an opportunity". I am currently working on touching new horizons of knowledge in this time. Learning new things in the field which fascinates me so much. And this is where I am right now, working towards my dream every day, to make it come true.
